Prague - The Prague 8 Municipal Office has canceled the tender for the reconstruction of the rear wing of the Libeň Castle. The reason was ambiguities in the assignment of the contract, which raised numerous questions. Today, Mayor Roman Petrus (ČSSD) informed ČTK of this. The contract, worth approximately 49.9 million crowns, is planned to be reissued by the municipality in December. After the reconstruction of the rear wing, officials are expected to be housed there. The front part, where they are currently located, will serve representative purposes.
"The reason for the cancellation was the overwhelming number of questions regarding the technical part of the tender. This led to a lot of uncertainties. Therefore, we allowed the company that prepared the assignment to revise it. So that no one could contest the competition afterwards," stated Petrus.
The municipal district has had a project for the repair prepared for several years and also has a building permit. If the repairs are carried out, they would like to relocate officials to the new space. The vacant front part of the castle, where the mayor currently resides, would serve representative purposes or for mapping the history of the municipal district.
In the past, the municipal office had the facade and front of the castle repaired. The chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary and the adjacent sacristy inside the castle have also been completely renovated. The Rococo castle once served, among other things, as a summer residence for Prague mayors; it now houses the municipal district's offices and has a ceremonial hall.
