Prague - Prague 7 is considering relinquishing management of the Hanavský Pavilion in Letná. The reason is the necessary reconstruction of the building, which is likely to be expensive. The transfer of the building to the city was proposed by opposition councilor Jan Ladin (TOP 09). The councilors decided that the town hall will first negotiate a memorandum with the municipality regarding the reconstruction process. The resolution was adopted unanimously. The city district has managed the pavilion since 1993.

Ladin argued that the building leaks and urgently needs a complete renovation. According to him, the town hall does not have sufficient financial resources for its reconstruction, and therefore the most appropriate solution would be to request the city to take back the entrusted property. "This is the same procedure as for the Šlechtova restaurant. The goal is to restore the Hanavský Pavilion to operational condition," Ladin said. Mayor Jan Čižinský (Praha Sobě) clarified that in the case of the Šlechtova restaurant, the city district first negotiated a memorandum with the municipality about the repairs. "I would suggest negotiating a memorandum in this case as well. It would be irresponsible to vote on it without the consent of those to whom we want to entrust the property," added Čižinský.

Deputy Mayor Kamil Vavřinec Mareš (Praha Sobě), who oversees property matters, noted that the city district currently does not have a budget for the reconstruction. This will be created only after consultations with preservationists and conducting surveys to determine the actual technical condition. According to him, it is probable that construction work will be expensive, but if the city district could secure funding, for example through grants, it could retain management.

"If it turns out that the economic burden won't be that great, I would be in favor of keeping the property for the reason that we would have influence over what happens in Letenské sady," said the deputy mayor. The adopted resolution tasks the city district council and councilor Ladin to negotiate with the capital city a memorandum regarding the reconstruction process and the use of the Hanavský Pavilion by September 30.

The building is located near Kramářova villa. It was created as a representative pavilion for the Komárov Ironworks for the Jubilee Land Exhibition in 1891. The pavilion was designed by architects Otto Haiser and Josef Hercík, while the details of the decoration were designed by artist Zdeněk Emanuel Fiala. After the exhibition ended, the pavilion was dismantled, and Prince Hanavský donated it to Prague. The pavilion was renovated in 1967 and 1987.
