Prague - The new leadership of Prague 7 has rejected the construction of a multipurpose building at Ortenovo náměstí, for which the former leadership of the municipality wanted to spend 150 million crowns. This was stated today by the mayor of the district, Jan Čižinský (Prague 7 for itself). Instead of the eight-story building, which was to serve for social housing, a kindergarten will be established. "The current leadership of the district definitely does not intend to continue with the multipurpose building project," said the mayor. According to him, the costs would exceed the financial capabilities of the municipality. Moreover, the public did not have enough information about the project and thus could not express their opinion, he claims. The prefabricated two-storey building that currently stands on the site will be adjusted by the municipality for preschool education needs. "Prague 7 is struggling with a shortage of places in kindergartens, and the given spaces have suitable layouts for adaptation to a new kindergarten," added Čižinský. The Prague 7 for itself movement won 15 mandates in the elections, while the coalition PRO 7, consisting of the Green Party, Pirates, SNK-ED, and independent candidates, won four. In the twenty-nine-member council, the coalition of both movements thus has a majority. Besides them, TOP 09, ODS, ANO, and ČSSD also made it into the council.
