Zlín - The building in the former Bat'a factory complex in the center of Zlín, which was engulfed by a large fire in January, will be demolished. The facility was used by HP Tronic Zlín as an electronics warehouse. The fire destroyed appliances worth 210 million crowns, spokesperson for HP Tronic Zlín Bohuslav Komín told CTK today.
The owner of building number 103, the real estate company Cream, has an available statistical report. "We have to demolish the older three-story part of the building. Administrative proceedings regarding the demolition order are already underway at the building authority," said company director Martin Jarolím.
Demolition could begin in October. "The decisive factor will be the position of the building authority. That is, what procedure for the demolition will be set. Based on that, it will be possible to estimate the duration of the demolition," Jarolím noted. The newer part of the Cream building will be repaired by the company.
A specialized company is currently clearing out the burned building of destroyed appliances, mainly consisting of small household devices. They are being sent in containers for ecological disposal. "The clearance is taking place under strict safety conditions. Part of the building is inaccessible on the instruction of the structural engineer. At one time, only two pallet trucks may be used for the clearing," Komín stated.
According to him, clearing out several hundred tons of destroyed appliances will take several weeks. Workers involved in the clearing operations wear special disposable suits, gloves, respirators, and must follow the structural engineer’s directives. "They are not allowed to enter certain parts of the building at all, so the disposal there will only take place during the demolition," Komín said.
The fire at the building was tackled in early January for three days by several dozen firefighters. Jarolím had previously stated that it was likely caused by a faulty fluorescent lamp. The police have not yet published the results of the investigation. The city spent a quarter of a million crowns on extinguishing the fire. The city hall paid for air quality monitoring, and also relocated children from kindergartens and nurseries in the center on the first day of the fire.
