Plzeň - Residents of Plzeň and tourists who are captivated by the city's diverse architecture can acquire a new DVD featuring a selection of 50 architectural gems of the city. The medium showcases the most beautiful, remarkable, and valuable buildings of various styles from history to the present. This was stated by the spokesperson of the city hall, Zdenka Kubalová.

"Everyone in Plzeň is likely familiar with the Renaissance Town Hall, the Gothic Church of St. Bartholomew, the Great Synagogue, or the Municipal Meeting House. However, there are other architectural gems within the city's territory that are more or less unknown or undervalued," the spokesperson noted. The title includes six language versions - Czech, English, German, Russian, French, and Japanese. In addition to chapters dedicated to individual architectural works, it also features a nearly 15-minute film that briefly guides the viewer through the described objects.
"This selection is not intended to be an exhaustive overview. It aims only to highlight buildings that represent the best from the various developmental stages of architectural heritage in Plzeň," remarked one of the authors, Anna Hostičková from the Department of Concept and Development of the City of Plzeň.
The DVD features, for example, some Art Nouveau houses in Plzeň and their details, several works by architect Hanuš Zápal with elements of rondokubism, the cultural heritage building of Czech Radio, the maternity hospital in Slovany, which was originally designed as a school, so the observatory remained on the roof, several private villas of prominent entrepreneurs, or modern buildings awarded the title Building of the Year in recent years.
The medium costs 99 crowns and is available at the city information center in Republic Square.
