Pardubice - Pardubice will buy from the heirs the remains of the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, after negotiations the parties agreed on a price of 60,000 crowns. Martin Charvát (ANO), the mayor, told ČTK. The town hall will then donate the chapel to the Omnium association, which will renovate it. The city has been negotiating the purchase with the owners since 2018.

"It was a bit more complicated. The expert opinion set the price at 45,000 crowns, the heirs wanted 65,000 crowns, then we agreed on a price of 60,000 crowns. After the transfer, we will start negotiating with the Omnium association to preserve the chapel for the future," Charvát said.

The Omnium association from Broumov in the Náchod region restores dilapidated monuments, so the chapel could again serve spiritual purposes. In 2018, the city wanted to demolish the chapel because only partial perimeter walls remained and it has no roof. The Friends of Pardubice association opposed this.

It pointed out that more chapels have already been demolished in Pardubice. In the 1950s, chapels such as St. Mark's Chapel and St. Joseph's Chapel were demolished, and the communist regime allowed the Church of St. James in Hostovice to fall into disrepair. Later, it was demolished.

The Chapel of the Holy Trinity, built in 1860, stands on the site of a wooden chapel that burned down. There was also a tavern and a spa with a healing spring. The wooden structure from 1793 gave its name to the local district U Trojice.

The land has belonged to the city since 1979, when it was purchased from the owners. The chapel was not part of the purchase agreement. The owners have since died, and the heirs were unaware of the chapel's ownership.

Because the chapel is in a deplorable state, the city fenced the property for safety last year for 60,000 crowns. City representatives then negotiated the purchase price with the owners. This year, the inheritance proceedings also concluded because the notary was searching for potential heirs. One of the owners remarried and could theoretically have additional children.
