Staré Město (Uherskohradišťsko) - The Slovácko Museum in Uherské Hradiště is preparing a general reconstruction of the Memorial of Great Moravia for next year. In addition to a complete reconstruction of the national cultural monument, the project also includes the construction of a new exhibition. The investment plan for approximately 30 million crowns has already been approved by the Zlín Region Council. If grants from so-called Norwegian funds can be obtained, repairs will begin in May of next year, said museum director Ivo Frolec to ČTK. The Memorial of Great Moravia is among the most significant national cultural monuments. The building was constructed between 1959 and 1960 on the foundations of the first discovered and recognized structure from the Great Moravian period, the Church of Na Valách. However, the site of the memorial was never completed to its planned form and extent. It is not possible to publish the results of new archaeological research in the building, organize scientific working meetings, and the building provides almost no facilities for visitors and researchers. "It is not capable of operating in the winter months, as it is neither insulated nor heated. Thanks to the reconstruction, we will be able to welcome visitors 365 days a year," specified the director. According to him, the current permanent exhibition is also outdated, lacking the possibilities of using multimedia technology and does not have barrier-free access. A space for special children's programs should be created here. Radical changes will also occur in the permanent exhibition, which currently presents the history of Great Moravia only on panels and in showcases. "That will come to an end," clarified Florec. In the entrance area, the story of a person living in the time of Great Moravia will be projected on a large screen, while the exhibition spaces will subsequently follow with various examples, such as artifacts, styles of living, and ways of sustaining life. However, the plans for the restoration of the monument do not end there. The museum management is now preparing another follow-up project for the extension of the monument, which will create a completely unique Archaeological Center of Great Moravia in Central Pomoraví in the Czech Republic. It will be a modern presentation and service facility, as well as suitable spaces for a scientific research center with storage, a specialized thematic library, study areas, and facilities for archaeological research and cleaning of finds. In the context of the development of tourism in the Zlín Region, there are also plans to connect significant Silesian, Moravian, and Slovak archaeological sites with an international tourist trail, which should be called From Great Moravia to the Beginnings of Czech Statehood. The Memorial of Great Moravia is to become its pilot site.
