Prague - A unique wall painting from the end of the 13th century was discovered by conservationists in the Church of St. John the Baptist in Prague Hostivař. This was reported today by Czech Television. According to experts, it is a find of Central European significance. The rare fresco has so far undergone the first phase of restoration.
"We have managed to uncover a truly very rare wall painting, which is relatively undamaged," said Jan Royt from the Institute of Art History at Charles University. Conservationists particularly appreciate the extraordinary iconography of the monument, known only from foreign book paintings.
Restorers will now begin the second phase of repairs. The entire fresco is expected to be restored by the end of next year.
