Island: The old fire station should be replaced by a new one

Ostrov (Karlovy Vary) - A modern building should replace the old fire station in Ostrov in about three years. At the same time, a professional unit of the Fire Rescue Service of the Karlovy Vary Region is set to be established here. Currently, only volunteer firefighters serve in the second-largest town in Karlovy Vary. The project costs approximately 57.8 million crowns. This was stated by Alexandra Fürbachová, head of the city's development and urban planning department, to ČTK.
    The city is already preparing a study for a new fire station in collaboration with firefighters. The site is located on the former gardening area on Jáchymovská Street. The land, valued in millions, will be the city's contribution to the project. "The existing station is in an unsatisfactory condition. Moreover, it is located next to a heritage complex. In connection with the projects to restore the castle and the Palace of Princes, it is not counted on in the long-term perspective," Fürbachová stated.
    According to the study, the construction of the main building will cost about 35.5 million crowns. Additional infrastructure will then cost at least 20 million crowns. Regional firefighters will request a grant of 35 million crowns from their general directorate. "Ostrov will provide the land and build the technical infrastructure at its own expense. The land will then be transferred free of charge to the state," Fürbachová added.
    The modernization and construction of fire stations for the Fire Rescue Service of the Karlovy Vary Region began six years ago. During that time, a completely new station was built in Mariánské Lázně for approximately 52.5 million crowns. The reconstruction of former technical service buildings in Aš, where firefighters moved from an unsuitable building, cost about 30 million crowns. Fire stations in Karlovy Vary, Sokolov, and Cheb are also undergoing gradual modernization.
