Ostrava

Ostrava – The city of Ostrava will once again contribute to private owners for the restoration of cultural monuments and significant urban buildings that are in poor technical condition and located in important areas of the city districts. Interested parties will be able to apply for the subsidy starting from April 8. The funds can be used for maintenance, repairs or restoration. This was stated by the spokesperson of the municipal office, Andrea Vojkovská. Four million crowns are prepared for this year's grant program.

"Owners of urban residential buildings and civic amenities, buildings intended for sports and cultural use, and objects of industrial heritage can apply for support. The application period is from April 8 to June 8, and the city council will decide on the allocation of subsidies no later than the end of September," the spokesperson noted.

The city can contribute between 50,000 crowns and 1.5 million crowns for one project. The subsidy can cover a maximum of half of the direct costs, with the remainder covered by the property owner. "The subsidized repair or reconstruction of the building must be completed by the end of June 2022 at the latest. It may also include interventions that the property owner started at the beginning of this year," the spokesperson added.

Last year, the city allocated nearly 5.3 million crowns among nine successful projects. The funds were directed, for example, to the repair of two houses

in the heritage zone of Moravian Ostrava, as well as to the renovation of residential buildings constructed in the 1950s in the style of socialist realism in the Poruba district or to the modification of buildings in the gable colony in Vítkovice.

Until 2017, the city allocated approximately three million crowns annually for the restoration of monuments; last year, it spent more than five million. For this year, it is four million crowns, as the city had to reduce the allocated amount due to lower tax revenues.
