Liberec - The complete renovation of the dilapidated Technic Pavilion, which is the most valuable building in the area of the former exhibition grounds (LVT) in Liberec, is set to begin this April, according to the city hall. It will be converted into a branch of the city information center. The reconstruction is expected to take about a year. Jana Kodymová, the spokesperson for the city hall, informed ČTK about this today. The estimated cost of renovating the atypical oval building, also known as the casino, will be around 30 million korunas, with most of the costs covered by EU subsidies.
"The price for which the pavilion will be renovated will be known only after the public tender is closed," Kodymová stated. The city hall is likely to announce the construction contract in February.
This is the former entrance pavilion to the exhibition grounds, built in 1946 for summer operation based on the design of architect Svatopluk Technik. It is now a dilapidated building that has been unused for a long time. Due to its poor technical condition, only the basement can be salvaged; the other parts will need to be demolished and rebuilt.
"The reconstruction will create a very attractive multifunctional place, which will offer the public an information center facility on the ground floor, including a relaxation zone and restrooms. The upper floor will feature a space for screenings, lectures, and exhibitions related to the activities of the information center, as well as guided tours related to this touristically unique location in our city," said Deputy Mayor for Architecture, Public Space, and Transport Construction Jiří Janďourek (Mayors for the Liberec Region).
The pavilion is located at the so-called Golden Cross, a name for the intersection of Masarykova and Vítězná streets, which features a trio of architecturally significant buildings - the North Bohemian Museum, the Regional Gallery of the Baths, and the former Chamber of Commerce and Trade. Additionally, a promenade path leading to the Botanical Garden and zoo runs around the Technic Pavilion. "That is why it makes sense for the Technic Pavilion to be transformed into a new multifunctional branch of the city information center with facilities for the public," the deputy added.
