Čáslav (Kutnohorsko) - Dusíkovo theater in Čáslav, which is undergoing extensive reconstruction, will reopen to the audience on October 1. The first performance will be a presentation by the Divadlo Sklep. Craftsmen are currently painting the façade and completing work in the interiors, said the theater director Eva Albrechtová to ČTK.
Work on the modernization of the theater, costing over 70 million crowns, began last June, and the building has been closed since then. The spatial and layout solution of the theater still corresponded to the state from 1924. The basement was the most neglected, and the technical facilities of the building, including air conditioning, heating, electrical installations, and water supply systems, were on the verge of obsolescence.
"A fundamental issue is the technical background in the theater; we have a new boiler room, new boilers, air conditioning, social facilities, and above all, facilities for the performers," stated Albrechtová. According to her, the audience will also appreciate the new stage with a capacity of 170 seats or the theater club. The grand opening is planned for September 25, but the audience will only have access to the spaces from October.
The theater, named after the Čáslav native, composer, and pianist Jan Ladislav Dusík (1760 to 1812), is one of the oldest stone theaters in Bohemia. Construction began in June 1867, and the building was ceremonially opened on February 28, 1869. Since then, it has undergone several renovations and reconstructions, the most important of which was the reconstruction after the fire in 1923. The last major renovation was in 1930, and no significant construction work has been carried out since then.
The city received 12.5 million crowns from the European Union for the reconstruction, so it had to contribute most of the money from its own sources. Part was found in the budget and part was obtained through a short-term loan.
