Prague - Expert groups that will address issues surrounding the planned building of the National Library in Prague met for the first time today and elected their chairpersons. The team of architects will be led by Martin Rajniš, the heritage experts by Ivan Muchka from the Institute of Art History of the Academy of Sciences, and the lawyers will be chaired by attorney Aleš Pejchal, the municipal office announced. The experts will work for a group called the National Library, which includes its director Vlastimil Ježek, mayor Pavel Bém (ODS), deputy minister of culture František Mikeš, and the proposal's author Jan Kaplický. They approved the questions that experts are to address already on Saturday. Today, the members of the expert groups also discussed them; they will meet again in two weeks. "All members of the National Library team consider their work to be decisive, as any solution must be based on expert opinions," the municipal office stated. According to Bém, there are five issues related to the possible construction of the library based on Kaplický's study at the originally planned site in Letná. These are land issues, the zoning plan, adherence to the rules of the international architectural competition, preservationist perspectives, and funding for construction. The National Library team will meet for their second session on Thursday, November 8th.
