Most - A dialogue about the future of the library building in Most will be led by architects with the city hall and will also involve residents. The city hall would like to create facilities for a basic art school within the building. It has chosen a studio that will manage the dialogue between the architects and the client regarding the precise brief for the public competition. This was announced to journalists today by the Deputy Mayor Václav Zahradníček (ProMOST). The library's operations and all the books will be moved to the cultural house Repre after its reconstruction is completed.
The library's premises are in poor technical condition. Zahradníček told ČTK that the city is not considering the demolition of this significant building under any circumstances. Some residents were concerned about this and called events to "save" the library. The building could be utilized by the basic art school, which is currently inadequate for its needs.
The aim of the dialogue between experts, the city, and citizens is to prepare the best possible brief for the competition. "According to the experiences we have from previous projects, the selected studio will provide space for collecting public opinions," Zahradníček said. The treasures could be available to the city in the spring of next year.
The current library building in Most was opened to the public in 1985 and boasts, among other things, the longest chandelier in European libraries. A double helix made of glass tubes winds above the bookshelves along the entire length of the building. The work of the artistic glassmaker Vladimír Procházka corresponds with the size of the open spaces that were being built at that time.
