Prague – The sauna, previously intended mainly for dancers and other artists of the National Theatre (ND), has opened to the public as well. It is located on the roof of the theatre's operational building, and during evening stays, visitors can listen to live audio broadcasts of operas and ballets happening at that moment in the historical ND building.

The sauna will be operating until the end of the theatre season and then again from September. Nikol Klevcovová informed ČTK about this on behalf of the sauna operator.

Actor Stanislav Majer teamed up with Lukáš Otevřel and Miroslav Sládek to run the sauna. They succeeded in the selection process during which ND was looking for a new operator for the loss-making sauna.

The history of the sauna dates back to 1976, when it served actors and ballerinas of the National Theatre. Its new operators have cleaned it from the layers of time and reconstructed it. Nevertheless, visitors to the operational building will undergo an excursion through the design of the 1980s in addition to the sauna. Especially its supporters will appreciate the display of original pictograms, lighting, paneling, furniture, and various accessories including door handles and railings.

The newly built Finnish sauna is lined with wood in such a way that it creates the symbol of the Czech flag on the ceiling. Similar harmony with the essence of the National Theatre is represented by a white neon installation in the shape of a two-tailed lion designed by Marek Číhal.

The National Sauna is open daily from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. It operates on a membership card system, details are available at www.narodnisauna.cz

A few years ago, the National Theatre repeatedly offered a mobile sauna in the winter months on the piazza at the New Stage. People could warm up, cool down, and relax with a view of the historical ND building. There was a great interest in sauna sessions back then.
