Pozlovice/Luhačovice (Zlín Region) - Visitors to the largest spa in Moravia, residents of Luhačovice and the surrounding area will finally be able to swim comfortably close to their homes this year. Thanks to European subsidies, the town of Pozlovice will put a modern swimming pool into trial operation in July. An indoor pool will then be opened in Luhačovice in November. This was stated to ČTK by Pozlovice's mayor Olga Tkáčová and Luhačovice's deputy mayor Roman Lebloch. Luhačovice is one of the areas in the region selected for tourism development alongside Rožnov and Velké Karlovice. The region attracts tens of thousands of tourists every year, mainly guests of the local spas. Until now, the only place offering water fun was the Luhačovice reservoir, although cyanobacteria often polluted the water at the start of the bathing season. Health inspectors frequently banned swimming there. The leadership of Luhačovice and Pozlovice expect significant investments to primarily expand the offered services, thus increasing the number of tourists visiting Luhačovice. For example, Pozlovice has large accommodation capacities near the reservoir, which are used by thousands of tourists each year. Deputy Mayor Václav Sedlář previously told ČTK that in recent years they have noticed a decline in visitors, especially due to cyanobacteria in the reservoir. The new swimming pool on the southeastern shore of the reservoir cost nearly 50 million crowns excluding VAT. Pozlovice received a European subsidy of 34.5 million crowns for it, with ten million contributed by neighboring Luhačovice. Visitors will have the opportunity to use a stainless steel pool with attractions and a swimming pool, as well as a children's pool and playground. The area will be equipped with a waterslide and slide. Water heating will allow the area to be used from June to September. "The entry fee will be an amount customary in the region. We gathered information from other operators in the area, so it won't differ significantly," said the mayor. The indoor swimming pool with year-round operation in Luhačovice will cost 120 million crowns excluding VAT, with a grant from the Regional Operational Programme amounting to 82 million crowns. The complex will offer visitors a 25-meter long swimming pool with four lanes, a recreational experience pool with jets, massage beds, a jumping cylinder, a whirlpool, and a steam sauna will also be part of the complex. The Luhačovice reservoir is now one of the oldest waterworks in the Morava basin. It was first filled in 1930. Its cleaning, which is expected to remove up to 224,500 cubic meters of sediment, is planned to begin this autumn according to the Morava Water Authority. The costs are estimated at 155 million crowns.
