Prague - The skyscraper at Litochlebské náměstí in Prague 11 will not be built. The Municipal Court has annulled the zoning decision for the construction. The building was to be located at the site of a memorial for the fallen. ČTK was informed today by opposition councilor of Prague 11 and chairman of the Movement for Prague 11, Jiří Štyler. "In March 2014, the Supreme Administrative Court (NSS) ruled in our favor, and on June 13, 2014, the Municipal Court was forced, based on the NSS ruling, to revise its original position and to acknowledge the violation of the law by the city district of Prague 11 and the city hall," said Štyler. The movement, together with part of the residents, turned to the court because the town hall did not take their objections into account. They pointed out that the approximately one-hundred-meter building would disrupt the landscape, and that the project would violate the so-called setback distance. They were also concerned about the height of the building and the increase in noise and emissions from cars that would travel to the office building. Furthermore, the building was to be located on the site of a park with a memorial for the fallen residents of Chodov from the First and Second World Wars. "The destruction of a memorial site is unacceptable," said Štyler. The company Tweelingen wanted to build an office building at Litochlebské náměstí. It was to have 24 floors plus extensions. In total, it was to measure up to 105 meters in height, while the surrounding buildings are about 30 meters tall. Local residents and opposition politicians opposed the construction.
