Olomouc – Plastic windows are disappearing from the historical building of the Moravian Theatre in Olomouc these days; builders are gradually replacing them with wooden box windows, that is, double windows. The work on the side of Horní náměstí will last until the end of July. It will cost approximately one million crowns. A similar investment is aimed at renovating the fire curtain this summer, the theatre's spokesperson Pavlína Dočkalová informed ČTK. The Moravian Theatre uses the summer break for construction activities every year. This year's phase follows last year's roof reconstruction.

The plastic windows will be removed after 30 years and will be replaced with wooden windows in the original style. "We are replacing the windows mainly for aesthetic reasons. The theatre building from 1830 is a cultural monument, so the change comes in accordance with the heritage care for this object," said Karel Měsíček from the building management department of the Moravian Theatre. "I am glad that we are gradually able to sensitively improve the historical building of our theatre. We have continued the repair of the roof from last year," added theatre director David Gerneš, noting that next year plans include, for example, the renovation of the façade including lighting.

Craftsmen are also working inside the theatre – in the main hall, renovation of the fire curtain is being completed on the stage, aiming to improve fire protection properties and the electronic security system. The estimated costs will amount to 880,000 crowns excluding VAT. The theatre received a grant of 450,000 crowns for repairs from the Olomouc Region.

During the summer holiday period, the Moravian Theatre, whose building is one of the oldest theatre buildings in the country, utilizes annual construction activities – last year, this period was used for extensive roof repairs, which were in a state of emergency. The costs amounted to 1.5 million crowns. In previous years, summer renovations included, for example, stage lighting adjustments, craftsmen also replaced the floors in the ballet hall, renovated the auditorium, which included seat replacement, and renovated the orchestra pit area.
