In the competition for the design of the gymnasium in Černošice, the proposal by Fenomen Space won

Chernofice – In the architectural competition for the design of the new high school in Chernofice in Prague-West, the proposal by Radomír Feň and Ivona Uherková from the Brno-based company Fenomen Space won. The results of the competition, which received 39 proposals, were approved today by the regional councilors. This was the first architectural competition for a high school building in the Czech Republic. The new building will be located on Radotínská Street no later than the end of 2028. The estimated costs for the construction are 340 million crowns excluding VAT. In the modern history of the region, this is the first time a new secondary school will be built essentially from scratch, reported CTK spokesperson for the regional government Michal Rapco.

The subject of the competition was the development of an architectural design for a newly built four-year high school with a maximum capacity of 360 students in three parallel classes, a gymnasium that will also serve the public, and the immediate surroundings. The anonymous competition was conducted in two rounds, with the jury selecting six proposals for the second round. The second place was taken by the proposal from the Marek Chalupa architects studio and the third place by the proposal from the team of architect Lenka Iľová and plusminusarchitects.

"We perceive the new high school building as an opportunity for a comprehensive transformation of the educational concept. Therefore, in the competition, we were looking for solutions that would offer innovative arrangements of educational spaces. The goal should be a certain reduction of traditional classrooms in favor of a sufficiently flexible intermediate space allowing work in groups of various sizes, including self-study. The winning proposal fulfilled this vision the best. It also handled the relatively complicated plot and the heterogeneous scale of the surrounding buildings well,” stated regional councilor for education Milan Vácha (STAN).

In the evaluation commission, besides architects, there were also representatives of the city, which is providing the land for construction. The high school in Chernofice, which will be the second regional high school in the Praha-West district, is not the only planned new school project. The results of the architectural competition for the elementary and secondary school Campus Cihelna, a joint initiative of the Central Bohemian Region and Roztoky near Prague, are already known. Preparations for the competition for the design of a high school in Jesenice near Prague, which is expected to be announced in the fall, have also begun.
