Ostrava - The Moravská Ostrava and Přívoz district office is preparing to move. In the near future, it will announce a tender for the rental of a building that will serve the office until a new town hall is constructed. The new town hall will be built in the location of the current gap at Masaryk Square. District representatives announced this at a press conference today. The local district office currently operates in the New Town Hall building, which is home to the Ostrava magistrate. The deputy mayor of Moravská Ostrava and Přívoz, Petra Bernfeldová (Ostravak), stated that the district deserves its own town hall; by moving closer to the city center, officials will help revitalize the area but will also resolve the district's disagreements with the magistrate. "By having the officials in the center, life will return there, but we would also resolve certain issues with the magistrate, which has its departments spread out across the city," said Bernfeldová. The district has been discussing the possibility of moving to a building on Velká Street, but negotiations with the building owner ended last week. According to the deputy mayor, the owner could not meet the district's requirements, and the risks outweighed the potential benefits. "I expect that by the end of this year or at the beginning of next year, we will announce a tender for the rental of a building that would serve as the district office," said Bernfeldová. The options for buildings that the office could move to are, according to her, very limited. "There are buildings, for example, from the savings bank that will become available; I have information that the former Horník building is for sale, but those are listed buildings, and I believe that both the construction and heritage offices would not allow any alterations," said the deputy mayor. The town hall is looking for a rental for several years until it can move into a new building. This is set to arise in one of three gaps in close proximity to the main square, for which the district office is preparing construction in cooperation with the magistrate. According to council members, the buildings could be completed in five years.
