Litomyšl (Svitavy) - Litomyšl will start construction of an indoor swimming pool next month. The construction will cost 107 million crowns, half of which will be covered by European subsidies. Last year, some councilors were against the city undertaking such an expensive construction. Mayor Michal Kortyš (ODS) told reporters today that the city needs the indoor pool and the town hall is willing to subsidize its operation.
"We estimate an annual subsidy of 3.5 to 4.5 million crowns. I don't understand why people should travel to other cities to swim," said Kortyš.
The pool will be located in the Černá hora area, which already offers visitors outdoor sports. Now the area will come to life even in the colder months. The architectural solution connects to the grassy surfaces and creates a sort of linear embankment. The building, situated on a hill, will be visible from all directions. The main materials will be exposed concrete, stone, glass, and steel, similar to the Kraví hora complex in Brno.
"We visited a number of indoor pools in the country and were looking for one that received awards," said Kortyš.
Groundworks will begin in the second week of July. Therefore, the local road from the entrance gate of the swimming area to the intersection with the road towards Strakov will be closed until the end of August. At the same time, the city will provide an alternative entrance to the area, directing drivers from Zámecká Street. The city anticipates the completion of all construction work by October next year, said Pavel Jiráň from the city office.
