The book Plzeň from the Sky after 10 Years maps the biggest changes in the city

Plzeň - The biggest changes in the appearance of the city over the past decade are documented in the book Plzeň from the Sky after Ten Years. This is the 80th title in the 15-year history of the Plzeň publishing house and company Starý most. There was great interest in the original book Plzeň from the Sky from 2004. However, due to the significant changes in Plzeň, the company could not print a reissue and prepare a new book. Petr Flachs, co-owner, told ČTK.
The most significant transformations are visible in locations in the center of Plzeň, particularly on the site of the former exhibition grounds, where the Plaza shopping center and the New Theatre now stand, as well as in the Rychtářky area, the football stadium, and the Mlýnská strouha. "It has changed the appearance and usage of places by citizens,” he stated.
According to co-owner of the publishing house Zdeněk Hůrka, the Republic Square has changed significantly, with new fountains, paving, and building facades. "We don’t realize it. We think Plzeň is the same after ten years, but it is completely different. More colorful, more beautiful, and more developed,” he said.
All new photographs are by Plzeň author Jaroslav Vogeltanz. "Additionally, we reused 15 photos by the late Jiří Bergra, who created the first book, and compared them to the present,” stated co-owner Petr Mazný. Very attractive are, for example, aerial photos of the liberation celebrations, the match of Viktoria Plzeň against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and a concert by the band Lucie at the Lochotín amphitheater. At the end of the book are images of satellites of Plzeň such as Zruč, Letkov, Chotíkov, and Tymákov.
The publishing house Starý most launched its first book exactly 15 years ago. It was the title Plzeň 1880 to 1935, which is currently the best-selling title with 9,100 copies sold. The book with the largest print run was Škodovka in Historical Photographs, of which 10,200 copies were printed, including for the company. The book on the phenomenon of fear in sports by hockey coach Marian Jelínek maintains a consistently decent sales rate.
