Kladno - Kladno has received six million crowns from the Ministry of the Environment for preparing an analysis for the removal of old industrial burdens of the former Koněv steelworks. The goal is to gradually expand the area suitable for investment in this industrial region, said city spokesman Libor Kasík today to ČTK.
The analysis is a necessary prerequisite for the revitalization of the site of the former steelworks, which the city is planning. According to the first deputy mayor Miroslav Bernášek (ODS), the success of the entire project will be a positive stimulus for further investments in approximately seven hectares of this industrial zone, which are now neglected and unused.
If everything goes well, the city could apply for funding for its own revitalization in the fall and begin it next year, the deputy added.
The municipality also plans to build a bypass around Koněv that would divert traffic away from residential areas in the city. The project includes connecting the bypass to the northern bypass of Buštěhrad. Costs of 200 to 300 million crowns are expected to be covered by the Central Bohemia Region with possible co-financing from European funds.
From the construction of the road, the city expects better accessibility, increased attractiveness of the land along the route, and relief for traffic in the city center. "Today, any exit from the city goes through a housing estate or a family house district, and we would like to have an exit through the industrial zone," said mayor Dan Jiránek (ODS) to ČTK.
The industrial complex, formerly known as Vojtěšská huť, was established in 1854 when the first Belgian-type furnaces began to be constructed. From 1860, it underwent significant construction development that continued until World War II. After the war, Vojtěšská huť became part of SONP (United Steelworks, national enterprise) along with Poldina huť and other plants, and was renamed Koněv steelworks. The planned economy led to further significant losses. In the 1960s, a SONP program for the production of high-quality steels was established, and the Koněv steelworks was to be gradually shut down. The demolition of the blast furnace operations took place in the mid-1970s.
