Brno - The South Moravian Region will repair the building at Česká Street 11 in Brno in three phases, said Stanislav Juránek (KDU-ČSL), the governor's deputy, to journalists today. The first phase, for which the region allocated 20 million crowns from last year's budget surplus, should start this year. After reconstruction, the building will serve non-profit organizations that work with youth. During preparations, workers discovered old foundations and a well from the past, Juránek said.
The building used to belong to the state, which rented it out to various entities. It housed, for example, a youth travel agency and other organizations. "It was primarily used for commercial purposes, but in 2013 the region acquired it from the Ministry of Education with the condition that it would serve non-profit organizations caring for youth," Juránek said. According to him, the region has already reached an agreement with six of them.
However, he noted that the state did not invest much into the building, which is why a general reconstruction is necessary. "Initially, we thought we would complete it in two phases, but due to the discovery of the well from ancient times and the old foundations, we will have to divide the work into three phases. We certainly won't finish it by the end of this electoral term," Juránek added.
The regional elections will be in the autumn of 2016. By then, two phases could be completed. "It wouldn't be worth rushing at this moment due to the interesting findings and safety," the deputy noted. The costs for all three phases of work are expected to exceed 50 million crowns, according to estimates.
The South Moravian Region provided funds for the reconstruction of the building from last year's budget surplus of over half a billion crowns. Further investments will go into transport, healthcare, and the social sector.
