Jablonec n.N./Prague - The former seat of the gentlemen's society Schlaraffia in Jablonec nad Nisou is threatened with demolition. The Ministry of Culture has rejected the request to list this building as a cultural monument, reported the idnes.cz server. The owner can therefore deal with the dilapidated building at his discretion; nothing prevents him from having it demolished.

"The building has not been declared a cultural monument, primarily due to its very poor technical condition. Some structures of the mansion have already collapsed, and others are at immediate risk," said Anna Ješátková, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Culture, to the server.
The mansion near the bus station was built in 1908 and was exceptional as the seat of one of the clubs of Schlaraffia, since this association usually rented its locations or modified existing buildings. Schlaraffia gathered a gentlemen's society and better-off classes. The fundamental values that this gentlemen's organization upheld were friendship, art, and humor. It brought together personalities who worked together for the implementation of generally beneficial projects and also supported them financially.
In close proximity to the mansion is the complex of the company Malina-Safety, which is also the owner of Schlaraffia. In 2008, the company’s management reached an agreement with the then councilors to restore the mansion, which was to become part of a new commercial, production, and administrative center. However, the reconstruction ultimately did not take place.
