Brno - The building of the Faculty of Architecture of the Brno University of Technology (VUT) on Poříčí street is adorned with a newly unveiled memorial plaque, bust, and relief of Leoš Janáček (1854 to 1928) from today. They remind us that the composer worked there for a quarter of a century. This merely repays a small debt that Brno owes to Janáček, said Eva Drlíková, director of the Leoš Janáček Foundation, to ČTK. The foundation's desire is to create a Janáček museum. The building where the Faculty of Architecture is currently located was originally built as a Teacher Training Institute. Janáček worked there from 1878 to 1904. The bust and relief, which now depict him, portray him not as an older man, but rather in his youth. They were created based on historical photographs of Janáček. At the Teacher Training Institute, Janáček worked both as a teacher and as a conductor, choirmaster, and composer. The plaque, bust, and relief were unveiled on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Janáček's death. "Janáček's work is so significant that one can always find something new in it," added Drlíková. Therefore, according to her, it is essential to build a museum dedicated to this composer. Janáček's memorial on Smetanova street in Brno is considered too small to create a quality exhibition.
