Prague - In May, American architect Michael Reynolds, known as the "garbage architect," will come to the Czech Republic. For over 35 years, he has been building affordable houses from old tires, cans, and plastic bottles. His homes are energy self-sufficient, featuring their own water supply, heating, and sewage systems. Reynolds, who gained fame from the documentary film "Garbage Architect" by British director Oliver Hodge, will visit the Czech Republic as part of his European tour.
The architect will have lectures and discussions in the Czech Republic. From May 2 to 4, he will present in Prague and České Budějovice, CTK was informed by Veronika Dušková from the civic association Ekofilm.
Initially, Reynolds faced many bureaucratic obstacles in America with his unconventional architectural creations. He even had his architect's license revoked for several years. He therefore traveled with a group of builders to areas affected by natural disasters, where he realized his visions. He taught local residents in Honduras, Mexico, and Haiti to build the affordable eco-houses he calls "earthships."
After his successes in humanitarian work, he had his professional license reinstated in the United States and managed to push through a change in building regulations. He was also permitted to build a testing base in New Mexico, where 15 earthships will be constructed. These self-sufficient eco-houses will be equipped with everything necessary for survival in case the planet runs out of non-renewable energy sources.
On Monday, May 2, Reynolds will meet with journalists in Prague, and in the evening, he will discuss with the audience at the Světozor cinema after the screening of the film "Garbage Architect." On Tuesday, May 3, there will be a lecture by the architect at the Faculty of Science of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, and on Wednesday afternoon, he will speak at the National Technical Library in Prague.
