Jihlava - As part of the European Heritage Days, more monuments will open up over the weekend in the Vysočina region, some of which are usually inaccessible. Others will spice up their regular programs with theaters or costume tours. People will also be able to visit the church in Zahrádka in the Havlíčkův Brod area, which remains from the village submerged during the construction of the dam, said Markéta Slabová from the National Heritage Institute.
Access to the church in Zahrádka, managed by the NPÚ, is only allowed on rare occasions. It stands by the Švihov dam built in the 1970s. Visitors will be able to tour it on Sunday.
Costumed tours will enhance the experience of visiting the castle in Náměšť nad Oslavou in the Třebíč region. Over the weekend, it will commemorate the half-century since the moon landing and other events. More than a hundred actors will participate in 15 living pictures. Special tours for families with children will also be held on September 14 and 15 at Kámen Castle in the Pelhřimov area.
In Havlíčkův Brod, six churches will open on Saturday, including the monastery church of the Holy Family. Underground passages in the city center will also be accessible. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Polná in the Jihlava area will offer spiritual music on Saturday, and classical music will be performed in the Polná synagogue and the rabbi's house.
European Heritage Days aim to support the protection of cultural heritage. The Czech Republic has participated since 1991. This year's ceremonial program was launched on September 7 in Litomyšl, whose castle area became part of the UNESCO World Heritage 20 years ago. About 800 monuments will open during these days up to September 15.
