The Continuo Theatre will present itself at the Vodňany brickyard starting from August 14th

Prague - For the sixteenth time, the theater group Divadlo Continuo will organize an international summer site-specific project in mid-August at the former brickworks in Vodňany. The performance, loosely inspired by the text Citadel by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, will be created in collaboration with young artists from across Europe, and it will premiere on August 14. This was announced by the producer Zuzana Bednarčiková.
The hundred-year-old brickworks in Vodňany ceased operations in the 1990s. It is an abandoned place that still bears traces of its former beauty, which arose from the connection of functionality and architecture. "Imagine a wedding feast after the guests and lovers have left. At dawn, the mess they left behind emerges. Broken jugs, overturned tables, a dead fire, everything has a frozen imprint of chaos," writes Saint-Exupéry.
According to the director of the performance and artistic leader of Divadlo Continuo, Pavel Štourač, his text is a multi-layered work. "We chose it as a guide for searching for answers to questions related to the state of contemporary society, civilization, and culture, but also to the omnipresent questions that people ask regardless of the time they live in. However, we do not seek answers in words; we try to find them in movement, tones, rhythm, and images," he characterized the production.
Physical theater combined with artistic poetics, omnipresent dust and sand, thirst, desire, dreams. These are the ingredients from which the performance is said to be woven. It will take place in several locations within the former brickworks, both in its exterior and interior, and will have the form of a shared journey for the audience and actors.
The preparations involve two dozen performers, visual artists, and musicians from 12 European countries - the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Russia, France, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Turkey. The production is traditionally created based on joint workshops of the participants. It will take place from August 14 to 22, always starting at 8:30 PM in the Vodňany brickworks.
In mid-July, members of Continua presented a performance about the quest for the Holy Grail, freedom, and redemption in the garden of the Slovanský dům in Prague. The Malovice group used the multi-genre project Ark of Hope, which was presented in this space by sculptor and musician Petr Schel in mid-June. He then revealed a monumental sculpture of the ark, which serves as a stage. Continuo presented there an earlier project Finis Terrae, which is a movement, puppetry, and visual street performance. At the same time, it is a montage of historical texts, physical acting, live music, rhythm, and visual poetry, as well as a parable of two paths - the masculine and the feminine, the external and the internal. After its premiere in Nuremberg in April 2009, the production embarked on a journey across Europe. It has been performed in France, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Slovakia, and numerous places in the Czech Republic.
