Chrudim Museum is set to have a new depository designed by Projektil Architekti

Pardubice - The Chrudim Regional Museum is to receive a new depositary. The museum's founder, Pardubický kraj, plans to build it for approximately 67 million crowns. However, a necessary condition for the construction is obtaining a grant from European funds for the repurposing of decommissioned industrial sites. The regional council has already selected the architectural study for the building, but its location has not yet been definitively decided, said Miloslav Macela, the regional councilor for social care, the non-profit sector, and tourism, to ČTK.
    "The depositary should be built on the site of the current long-term care facility; it is the only suitable building we can use for this purpose. However, we will also be looking for other options, as the care facility is in poor technical condition, but from an architectural perspective it is not bad and is located in a nice place," said Macela.
    Currently, the museum has its collections directly in its Art Nouveau building. However, this is set to change. "We are interested in using the museum spaces more for the public and expanding the accessible exhibitions," said Macela. The regional leadership approved the proposal for the construction of the new depositary by the Prague architectural studio Projektil architekti. The modern concept of the building resembles an old chest in both shape and material used.
    According to Macela, the winning study can also be used in another location; the distance from the museum is not crucial. The condition, however, is that the depositary should not be built on a "greenfield." "The only way to European funds is through projects for the repurposing of former industrial, military, and other sites, so-called brownfields," said the councilor. The region had previously considered using part of the decommissioned malting plant in Chrudim for museum purposes but did not reach an agreement with its current owners.
