Čerčany (Benešov Region) - Čerčany in the Benešov Region want to have a new center for the community. According to the zoning plan, it should be established in a meadow between the hospice and the school. Proposals for the new square, prepared by students from Prague's architecture school, have been on display at the Čerčany information center from today.
"It is a very interesting perspective. The goal of the exhibition is to spark a discussion among citizens", said the mayor Karel Bárta to ČTK. Currently, the municipality does not have a valid concept for the central zone, where community public activities could take place and where a new barrier-free town hall and other civic amenities, such as shops, services, cinema, club space with a hall, or a café, would be located.
The town hall has requested cooperation from the Department of Architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague. The result is seven urban studies created by its students Tomáš Brix, Iveta Hulanová, Kateřina Kybalová, Marie Popovičová, Stanislav Ryšánek, Martina Samcová, and Tomáš Uhlíř. The authors will discuss their views on the new community center with residents on May 13 during the closing of the exhibition.
The municipality has been waiting for a new square since 1926. Surviving documents clearly indicate a structure of paths and plots that is still respected today. Among other things, the zoning plan includes an area for the creation of a new center, where a new hospice has already been established, and a church will be built nearby. Part of the garden at the school should be transformed into a school playground with an athletic track.
The new design of the square could also emerge from the competition for the Peter Parléř Award, in which Čerčany has applied. The competition is organized by the non-profit Society of Peter Parléř, which supports the development of architecture and care for the environment in this way. Through the competition, municipalities can commission the preparation of studies on a chosen topic. The results will be announced next year in January or February.
Čerčany has participated in this competition for the second time. Three years ago, they received an architectural study for the reconstruction of the cultural center and its surroundings. However, they have not yet begun the project. They are waiting for Czech Railways to complete the modernization of the railway corridor, after which heavy machinery will stop operating in the municipality.
