Brno - Brno will renovate the swimming pool at Ponávka for 20 million crowns. The work is expected to take place this year, said the mayor's deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) to reporters. According to him, this will involve roof repairs and thermal insulation of the building. This will save on energy costs.

The Brno council has selected the company Kalaha for the construction work. Once the legal deadlines have passed, both parties will sign the contract and the company will take over the construction site. "For the most part, this will not restrict operations, otherwise the restrictions will be minimal. The work concerns the roof, building insulation, and there are also some minor works inside," Hladík stated. Workers will also replace windows and doors.

Over two million crowns should be covered by a grant, with the rest being provided by the city from its budget. The facility features a twenty-five-meter swimming pool. The aim of the project is to improve the building's energy efficiency, save energy, and reduce pollutant emissions.

Brno is investing millions of crowns into pool repairs. It is renovating pools in schools, and last year completed the reconstruction of the Riviéra swimming pool for over 200 million crowns, which features new stainless-steel basins and attractions. As a result, attendance doubled, exceeding 168,000 people last year. At the Lužánky Municipal Swimming Stadium, the city is building a recreational wellness zone for 15 million crowns, and in the future, it plans to link the pool to the construction of a water park estimated to cost half a billion crowns.
