Brno - By the summer, Brno will offer the Jalta building next to the New Town Hall to buyers, which it controversially acquired several years ago. For the building with an underground hall, a passageway, and several floors of offices, it intends to receive at least 100 million crowns, said the mayor’s assistant Oliver Pospíšil (ČSSD) to journalists today. The city is also offering the Myslivna hotel in the forests above Pisárky for the same minimum price. The city already attempted to sell Myslivna last year but was unsuccessful. According to Pospíšil, this was due to an unclear relationship between the future owner and the tenant. In the new competition, everything is set up more clearly. The first interested parties have already registered for the second bidding process, with about five attending the viewing. A second excursion will still take place. The city has not yet attempted to sell the Jalta passageway, but according to Pospíšil, even in times of crisis, there may be interested parties in acquiring interesting properties. The city acquired Jalta in 2005, with the council voting on the transaction in an entirely non-standard secret ballot. The building was previously owned by entrepreneur Miroslav Lekeš, who received three buildings in the city center and land in sought-after areas of Pisárky and Stránice in exchange from the city. Some council members at the time described the deal as unfavorable. The police investigated the transaction for suspicion of corruption, but the case was shelved. The then city leadership planned to move officials from more distant offices into Jalta, adjacent to the New Town Hall. The mayor’s assistant Radomír Jonáš (ODS) claimed that the spaces would be prepared for them in September 2006. However, he downplayed the costs of repairing the building, initially talking about 20 million, later about 50 million crowns. According to another study, however, the repair of the building could cost up to a quarter of a billion.
