Brno - Brno wants to build a canoeing canal near the Anthropos location. It can begin working on the selection of a contractor for the documentation for the zoning decision, said the city councilor for sports Jaroslav Suchý (KDU-ČSL) to reporters today. The half-kilometer canal is estimated to cost 350 million, and the city will seek a grant from the state.
The city had to wait for the necessary documentation work until it obtained a building permit for the neighboring construction of a part of the large city ring road in the section Žabovřeská. "If the permit underwent changes, it could have affected the shape of the entire area," said Suchý.
However, the large city ring road recently obtained the permit, so the city can start working on the necessary documents for the canoeing canal. "We can start working on the selection of a contractor for the documentation for the zoning decision,” said Suchý. Following that, documentation for the building permit will follow.
According to Suchý, Brno wants to obtain a grant from the state and is negotiating this in Prague. "If everything goes well, construction could begin by the end of the election term. But we don't have it secured without the state's participation. Ideally, the state would cover 50 percent," said Suchý.
According to him, the canal would be used by canoeists, a youth sports center could be there, but the area could also be utilized by rescuers or firefighters for training in various situations. The canal is to be located in the area between the weir at the power plant and the former water tower, where there are currently empty reservoirs. The section is over half a kilometer long. In addition to the canal, the construction of a footbridge, stands, or parking spaces is also planned.
