Brno wants to support the construction of ecological apartment buildings

Brno - The Brno city council wants to contribute to the construction of ecological apartment buildings in the region. Councilors agreed that the city would participate as a partner in the design of one of them. The pilot apartment building is expected to operate as energy passive, meaning it should not require any external energy. It should produce or save energy on its own. In Germany, such buildings are referred to as solar houses. The project should be funded by European grants, and if obtained, it will be completed by spring 2012, said Deputy Mayor Martin Ander (SZ) to journalists today.
    The city will not invest any money in the project. In addition to the city, the Brno Association for Ecological Housing and the Vienna University of Natural Resources should collaborate on the project. If the plan succeeds, the city will be able to build according to the developed project. It will also be able to offer it to other local governments in the region.
    According to Ander, it is desirable for energy-efficient architecture to develop in the region. "South Moravia has enormous potential in this area, and the conditions for sunshine are the best here in the Czech Republic among all regions," he added.
    The proposed apartment building should also comply with the trend of flexible living. The project should allow for the adjustment of apartment sizes and layouts simply by moving partitions, according to the preferences of future residents. Architects and designers will propose the passive apartment building as three stories, with the lowest floor sloping into the hillside. There should be six to a maximum of eight apartments inside.
    According to the deputy, there are suitable locations in Brno for the construction of such buildings. He mentioned, for example, the southern slope above Petr Křivka Street in Nové Lískovec. It is also suitable because the zoning plan accounts for residential construction there.
