Brno - The Brno city district of Řečkovice and Mokrá Hora will repair Palackého Square, a new playground will be created, as well as more than 20 new parking spaces. This was stated today at a press conference by the mayor of the district, Marek Viskot (ČSSD). The costs are approximately 16 million crowns.

For the locals, it is an attractive location, favored for its park, strategic position near the town hall, church, and former brewery. "In the area, we want to create new pedestrian zones, as well as new benches for sitting, because there is currently no place to sit there. A new playground will be built in the area of the current asphalt surface and sandpits. The site of the former 'fire station' will have over 20 parking spaces," Viskot stated.

At this moment, a contractor is being selected, and the decision is expected by the end of June. Work is set to begin at the turn of July and August, with completion expected around December.

Last year, the city of Brno also contributed to the reconstruction of Palackého Square, which repaired the road adjacent to the area in front of the fountain and the church for 12 million crowns. The pedestrian crossing was also moved; it is no longer at the bend but in a clearer part of the road.

"From the reactions of local residents and public discussions, I perceive a positive reception of the entire project. Among other things, the proposal to unify the pavement on the road in front of the church and the pavement of the new parking lot was appreciated, which should give the place a cohesive character," the mayor stated.
