Brno - The district of Bystrc is planning to revitalize another part of the local housing estate, which is one of the largest in Brno. In an area known as the upper square, a development company will build a multi-purpose building. The construction of the building, which is to house a Tesco supermarket and other shops, will be followed by the renovation of the park, said Bystrc's deputy mayor Jiří Altman to ČTK.

Residents of Bystrc began the regeneration of residential areas, where most of the inhabitants live, three years ago. They first renovated a neglected space near the Max shopping center according to a project by the RAW studio. The area housing the post office, art school, and medical offices lacked roads for cars, walkways for pedestrians, and parking spaces, and cars even accessed the post office via an unpaved road. Asphalt and pavement were laid by builders last year, and this year the work is being completed. "We are planting trees, bringing in topsoil, and seeding lawns," Altman described, adding that the space including greenery will be fully developed this spring.
The city hall is now negotiating with Fuertes Development, which intends to build a multi-purpose building in the so-called upper square by Lýskova, Kuršova, and Rerychova streets. According to Altman, the building will not be designed as a typical chain store. There will be parking spaces in the basement, above which will be a supermarket with an area of up to 1,000 square meters. Another smaller building will rise from the center of the structure.
Bystrc, composed mainly of panel buildings, is also gradually renovating its historical center, which people nicknamed Stínadla due to its appearance. This year, repairs to the sewer system, roads, sidewalks, and driveways on Výhon Street will follow. The fan of streets rising from the 28th of April square, where the church and city hall are located, should be repaired. The street U Sokolovny will remain unrenovated, as the city's leadership believes it does not require a complete reconstruction.
