Mladá Boleslav - After fifteen months of construction, the multifunctional Bondy Center was officially opened this evening in Mladá Boleslav. The first customers will be able to access more than 80 shops, seven restaurants, and other spaces on Friday. The center, which aims to compete with similar areas at Černý Most and Letňany, expects a large influx of people at the beginning of its operation.
"In the first few days, we have increased security and safety by about half because we expect a large rush," said center manager Robin Panuš. However, movie fans will have to wait, as the multiplex cinema with four screens will open its doors only in mid-January. "The company Cinestar usually starts operations with a premiere film that they have planned just after the New Year," Panuš explained.
The building, which also houses a bus and train terminal, has become a new landmark of Boleslav's main street, Václav Klementa, with its modern design. It is located right next to the Škoda automobile plant. "The automotive industry inspired us; we wanted the building to resemble the smooth body of a car," said architect Jan Schindler from the firm 4a Architekti, which was responsible for the building's appearance. "Our goal was to make the center accessible from all four sides, so no one would actually have to walk around it. In the middle, we created a kind of square," Schindler added.
The complex will also feature a supermarket, global brand stores, restaurants, and a multiplex cinema, as well as a casino, billiards, and bowling. One part of the building is designated for office space. A similar center that includes a multiplex cinema has been missing in the region. However, according to the manager, the biggest advantage of the center is the train and bus terminal. "Buses and trains will bring people directly to the complex, which is unusual even for the whole of the Czech Republic," he added.
The investor of the Bondy Center is Raiffeisen Leasing Real Estate Sigma Property; the project cost around one billion crowns, including the terminal. The center houses over 80 stores, including restaurants and a supermarket, employing approximately 500 people. The total built-up area of the new complex is 10,253 square meters, and the greenery on the roofs occupies 2,690 square meters. The center has five above-ground and one underground floor. The parking lot can accommodate a total of 535 cars.
