Prague - Běchovice will begin the renovation of the cultural monument Old Post. The municipal district has been preparing the reconstruction for several years; now Prague has allocated a grant of 39 million korunas for it. The building located on the road connecting the center of Prague to Kolín used to be a changing station for postal coaches.
Originally, Prague provided the municipal district with a grant of four million, which was only about one-tenth of the costs. Now, the councilors have added another 35 million. "The municipal district has prepared a project for the building permit, and the allocated funds will primarily be used in the first phase for the restoration of the perimeter walls, roof drainage, and the construction of a rainwater drainage system," the explanatory report on the council's resolution states.
The municipal district is trying to open the building to the public. "The project includes new roofing for the buildings, reconstruction of the entire courtyard including the installation of engineering networks and rainwater drainage, and the construction of the missing part of the building in the southeastern corner of the yard," the explanatory report on the council's resolution states.
The project was prepared by the municipal district based on a student architectural competition, the winners of which were selected by the citizens following the recommendation of the expert committee.
The Old Post in Běchovice is originally a farm building used as a changing station for postal coaches on the route between Prague and Kolín. Since the 19th century, it has been used less, and in the last century, it has more or less deteriorated.
