Olomouc - The possible use of the municipal market in close proximity to the historic center of Olomouc will be proposed by several leading architects and urban planners contacted by the city hall. At the same time, the city has published an online questionnaire, allowing residents of Olomouc to express their opinion on the future shape of this place. This was reported to ČTK by the city hall spokesperson Radka Štědrá.

Online questionnaire with questions focused on how the public perceives the municipal market area is available for people on the web. The responses will serve as inspiration for the architects while creating proposals for further use of the space. Data collection through the online questionnaire will last until Monday, September 18. "The addressed area includes the outdoor market area with sales places, the historical market building, the adjacent parking lot, and the excavation site," stated the head of the chief architect's department, Jana Křenková.

A public presentation of the architects' and urban planners' final proposals, along with a discussion, is scheduled for Friday, September 22, at the Orangerie in Smetana Park. "The goal of the workshop, which will bring together architects from across the country, will be to devise intensive, diverse, and attractive uses for the market space for locals and tourists, and to propose the arrangement of this space for a transitional period of 10 to 15 years. This is how much time we estimate will be needed to prepare the final form of this key urban hub with buildings, squares, and streets," stated the mayor's deputy Tomáš Pejpek (Pirates and ProOlomouc).

The renewal and future shape of the municipal market in Olomouc have been discussed for years. According to the original plan of the councilors, a commercial and social center called Palác Morava was to be built on the market. However, a wave of opposition arose against the construction. The city administration retreated from this plan, and in 2002, the city councilors rejected the construction of Palác Morava.

The operation of the municipal market in Olomouc was taken over last year by the city organization Výstaviště Flora after an unsuccessful concession process for its long-term management, which has already begun extensive modifications of this area. The municipal market area had long been in a state of disrepair. However, the city does not own the building of the former municipal slaughterhouse, which is part of it. Various shops and a gaming hall operated in the building in the past. The property is currently owned by two individuals. The city wants to negotiate with them about further use of the building so that it becomes a functional part of the now-renovated market.
