Brno - The civic association Clean Tuřany from Brno has opposed the construction of a logistics center by the American company Amazon in Brno in the area of Černovická terasa under the current conditions. They are requesting the preparation of an environmental impact assessment (EIA) study, according to a press release from the association. The local council of the Slatina district has also made the same request, confirmed mayor Jiří Ides to ČTK. Residents of Dobrovíz near Prague, where Amazon plans another logistics center, have also opposed Amazon's plans. Amazon is set to fill one of the last available plots in the Černovická terasa industrial zone. The center is expected to cover an area of 95,000 m², and the building is to be 16 meters high. However, a key issue is the unresolved traffic situation and access to the D1 motorway, as the center is expected to serve 360 trucks daily. The association's director, Hana Kašpaříková, cites among the main shortcomings that the project documentation does not address the passage of trucks, as well as employees' cars through Tuřany, where traffic is currently at the limit of tolerability, just like in Slatina. In Tuřany, there are also frequent exceedances of air pollution values. "According to the documentation, it will only increase negligibly, and the conclusion is that it will not affect people's health," noted Kašpaříková. She also emphasized that the association is not against Amazon's plans at all costs, for which the project is being developed by the Dutch development company CTP. "However, it depends on many factors. It should also be said how many jobs will really be created, as they talk about between one and six thousand," said Kašpaříková. "The arrival of such an employer in Brno is certainly good, but it is necessary to address the traffic situation. We are trying to communicate with the city hall and the developer, but the problem is that the warehouse is located in the cadastral area of Černovice," said Ides. CTP, for example, plans to expand the critical intersection of Řípská and Tuřanka streets on its own. According to Slatina mayor Jiří Ides, however, this will not solve the problem.
