Karlovy Vary – The Karlovy Vary Elizabeth Spa will replace all its windows. The municipal spa has received a grant that will cover part of the costs for the reconstruction. When planning the replacement, the spa had to comply with the conditions set by the preservationists, said Václav Benedikt, chairman of the Elizabeth Spa board. According to him, the project includes the replacement of 403 windows on the facade and 102 on the roof.
"We applied for support under the fifth call for energy savings from the Ministry of Industry and Trade for a project with total costs of 24 million crowns. However, there is a high level of co-financing," said Benedikt.
The grant will cover about 30 percent of the total costs, which means that the Elizabeth Spa will receive about eight million crowns, with the remainder provided by the city of Karlovy Vary as the sole shareholder.
According to the project, the work should last until 2023. The spa received only one bid for the window replacement during the tender. The complexity of the contract lies in the fact that about seven percent of the windows will undergo refurbishment, while the rest will be replicas. Moreover, as Benedikt stated, the original windows were handmade, and practically no two windows on the historically protected building are the same.
The window replacement is the first significant investment that the Elizabeth Spa will undertake as part of the overall reconstruction. This will be followed by, for example, the reconstruction of the roof and trusses, the elevator has already undergone a general renovation, and repairs are also planned for the entrance and entry area of the Elizabeth Spa.
