The headquarters of China Insurance Group in Shenzhen, China, will be designed by Coop Himmelb(l)au. In the Shenzhen 4 Tower in 1 competition, Coop Himmelb(l)au triumphed over teams including Morphosis, Steven Holl Architects, Hans Hollein, MVRDV, and FCJZ Atelier. The 200 m tall building, with 49 floors and a footprint of 40x40 m, will be located in the Central District of Shenzhen, where other iconic skyscrapers are also being constructed. Right next to the China Insurance Group tower, a building for the Shenzhen Stock Exchange by OMA is under construction. The building will include public functions on the lower floors, with semi-public spaces (meeting rooms, recreational areas, a green roof terrace, etc.) above them, and the offices will be situated even higher. The tower will be characterized not only by its shape but also by its organically shaped façade, which will feature photovoltaic panels and multimedia panels. The design emphasizes the use of natural ventilation and renewable energy sources (wind and solar energy). The China Insurance Group building is not the only project by Coop Himmelb(l)au in Shenzhen. In 2007, they also won the competition for the Shenzhen Museum building.
