Komárno - Transportation from the Slovak Komárno to the Hungarian Komárom should be facilitated in the future by a new suspension bridge with a single pillar. The city already has the necessary documentation and will be applying for a building permit in the coming months. The construction of the bridge is conditional upon the signing of an intergovernmental agreement and securing funding. This was stated by the city’s mayor Tibor Bastrnák. "The construction should be financed by both states, preferably with the contribution of European Union funds," said Bastrnák. According to him, the city hall has already contacted the transport ministers of Slovakia and Hungary by letter to advocate for the expedited construction of the bridge. So far, Komárno has received nearly 25 million Slovak korunas (20.3 million CZK) from EU funds for preparing the project documentation. The new bridge over the Danube has been considered in Komárno for some time. The current Elisabeth Bridge is over 100 years old and, according to experts, is unsuitable for automotive freight transport. The new bridge is expected to be built outside the city in the direction of Bratislava. The approximately 20-meter-wide structure will be supported by a single central pillar, which will be over 100 meters tall.
