On Tuesday, January 23, 2007, the demolition of the St. Hermann Joseph kindergarten began. The author of this building from 1972 is Gottfried Böhm, the only German recipient of the Pritzker Prize. On the current site between the banks of the Rhine River and the zoo, the company Sahle Baubetreungs GmbH plans to build residential buildings. The city council approached five offices and organized an invited competition for this project, which was won in July 2005 by the local firm Lorber & Paul. Their variant proposed to build on the part of the land that has been unused for a long time, thus allowing Böhm's kindergarten to be preserved. However, the investor contacted his own planning department, and Böhm's building was evidently in their way. According to information from BauNetz, the author of the kindergarten had no further information about the upcoming demolition. Link>
