Rome: During the construction of the metro, excavations are being buried

Rome - During the work on the new underground line in the center of the Italian metropolis, archaeologists still have much to investigate - for example, a sixth-century copper processing workshop, a medieval kitchen with its period utensils, and even remains of a Renaissance palace have been discovered there. This was reported today by the AP agency.
Archaeologists are conducting deep probes in the excavations, which are mostly located near famous monuments or on the most significant thoroughfares. These exploratory boreholes precede the construction of stairwells and ventilation shafts.
The new line of the Roman metro will run at a depth of 25 to 30 meters below the level of human dwellings - even those ancient ones.
Plans for building a third metro line in the historically rich part of Rome have been in the making for decades, but have continually been postponed primarily due to a lack of financial resources and also due to concerns that construction work would be halted because of possible numerous discoveries.
