One of the most significant American buildings of the 20th century will undergo a major reconstruction after many years, undertaken by the office of James Polsheka (known for his sleek contemporary designs). The Yale University art gallery contains all the elements of Kahn's signature: bold geometric shapes, delicate lines, sensitive use of light, and a tactile love for materials. This is his first masterpiece, which hinted at further milestones in his later career. The project was also meant to be understood as part of the effort to rectify the corner of Yale University's campus, which also included the art and architecture faculty from 1963 designed by Paul Rudolph (currently being renovated by Charles Gwathmey). The years of insensitive changes have ended, and all parts of Kahn's gallery will be restored to their original splendor. Link>
