One of the leading Swiss events dedicated to design, Designers' Saturday in Langenthal, presents to the public from November 9th the installation of interior design students from the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. After great success on the home scene (Pinakothek der Moderne 15.2.2008-18.5.2008), in Munich and Dresden (Ostrale 2008, 05.-09.2008), the students' work is now exhibited abroad for the first time with slight modifications. The project conceived as a spatial experiment combines the work of all three study programs of interior design at the academy: interior design, product design, and design in free spaces. 52 students involved in the creation of the installation not only sought to create an interesting interior space but also to present a certain retrospective of their work so far. The project works with sociological concepts such as grouping, community, and privacy, presenting them to visitors transformed into specific spatial situations. Does contemporary design follow any formal line, direction, style, or charm of the time? What constitutes the true quality of good design? How does the interior correspond with the exterior space? These are questions that Munich students encounter daily and which they sought to answer through their installation. The visitor is engulfed in an abstract landscape composed of an infinite number of plastic tubes. Structures reminiscent of bird nests invite seating, a "light-shower" offers an unconventional light bath, and a tent-like structure woven from spider webs surrounds the entire installation space. Students, organized into teams, explored patterns, connections, and arrangements of individual elements of the installation as part of the project, but also contributed to the overall concept of the exhibition, including its realization. During 16,870 hours, they arranged a total of 1,292,300 recycled plastic tubes over an area of 200 m².
