Zlín - Due to the water accident on Sunday at the Zlín Regional Gallery of Fine Arts, all its spaces are closed. The planned Tuesday opening on sacred architecture for the Baťa company has also been canceled, said Michaela Mitáčková, spokesperson for the Baťa Institute, today to ČTK. The institute, which was created by the reconstruction of former factory buildings 14 and 15, moved in last year. Water leaked out from a broken heating pipe on Sunday around noon, flooding part of the second floor and seeping into the ground floor. However, the artworks were saved.
"Technicians are working to fix the malfunction. The damages to the building parts have not yet been quantified," Mitáčková stated. Firefighters and institute staff rescued the artworks.
The gallery will remain closed until further notice. "We will inform visitors in a timely manner about the alternative date for the opening and the reopening of exhibitions," said the gallery director Václav Mílek. According to him, the accompanying programs for the exhibition on sacred architecture, lectures scheduled for March 4 and 18, will still take place, possibly in alternative spaces.
"The other exhibition spaces of the Baťa Institute are accessible to visitors without restrictions. People can visit, for example, the permanent exhibition of the museum - The Baťa Principle: Today Fantasy, Tomorrow Reality, the exhibition František Bartoš: Educator, Linguist, Ethnographer, or the exhibition We Are All Relatives, which documents the life and culture of Native Americans," Mitáčková noted.
