Architect Kamil Mrva (1974) is one of the most prominent representatives of the younger generation of Czech architects. After graduating from the Faculty of Architecture in Brno and a brief internship at the Prague studio Gama under the direction of Karel Prager, he embarked on a study trip to North America, where he primarily studied the works of F. L. Wright. Full of enthusiasm from this journey, he returned to his native Kopřivnice and began working on one of his first buildings, his own family house with a studio. Here he realized his manifesto and experienced the construction of the house from the perspective of architect, investor, and construction supervisor. The house, bearing his typical signature, attracted significant attention and brought the young architect his first commissions. This was followed by several family homes that are characterized by the connection of contemporary architectural forms with traditional materials and the landscape of the Beskid region. Although the architect gained remarkable renown with his wooden buildings, he did not limit himself to this technology, and in the next phase of his work, he expanded his architectural repertoire to include other materials and architectural challenges. The exhibition presents the work of the studio Kamil Mrva Architects during a certain turning point. Their portfolio includes larger buildings and complexes as well. The dominant structural material of the currently under-construction houses is no longer solely wood. Kamil Mrva approaches other materials, such as stone, concrete, metal, and glass, in a way that allows him to utilize their typical properties and create buildings that are simple, clean, and functional. Several recent projects under development relate to public space. Kamil Mrva has been working for more than ten years in his studio in Kopřivnice; however, the projects are no longer exclusively tied to the Beskid region. Despite the increasing volume of commissions, he works with a small team of collaborators, and his studio has seen a number of students pass through.
